Setúbal Quinta do Morgado
Morgado’s House is a restored 18th-century building, formerly the residence of the Morgado de Setúbal within the Quinta de Aranguês estate. This elegant structure has been meticulously rehabilitated into six townhome-style apartments, merging historic charm with modern comforts. The building’s ground floor consists of three T2 apartments, each designed to enjoy a close connection with the garden, creating a tranquil living environment where the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces is beautifully blurred. These apartments offer serene views and direct access to the greenery, fostering a harmonious relationship with nature.
On the first floor, three spacious T3 duplex apartments feature a more expansive layout, enhanced by the addition of attic space. These duplexes retain the grand proportions typical of historic townhomes, offering abundant space for comfortable living. The preservation of key architectural elements gives the building a distinctive character. The restoration work includes the revival of traditional Portuguese tile panels, known as azulejos, which add vibrant decorative flair to the interiors. The original stone staircase, a striking feature of the house, has been carefully maintained, providing a sense of timeless elegance. The intricate woodwork of the original doors and skirting boards has also been preserved, lending warmth and authenticity to the spaces.
Additionally, the “treasure roofs,” a unique architectural feature typical of the region, have been restored, allowing for beautiful natural lighting and improved airflow in the upper levels. Each apartment has its own unique design, with some homes enjoying the presence of original fireplaces or antique tilery, while others benefit from exceptional views or direct access to the garden. The blend of historic craftsmanship and modern convenience creates an inviting living environment steeped in history, yet fully equipped for contemporary life.
